Makerbot and StataSys

A few days ago there was an entry in the blog of Makerbot which proved the rumors: Makerbot is now a part of StataSys. Makerbot will continue to work as a separat unit and still focus on the consumer market. I see it with mixed feelings: On one hand it is a big chance: Now Makerbot can use patents of StrataSys one of the biggest 3d printer companies and that could be a big benefit especially since the technology can be transfered and some ...

Makerbot Replicator 2: Problems and their solutions

I have my Makerbot Replicator 2 for a few month now and want to tell you about the problems I had with it as well as how I solved them. The Makerbot is not a product you would buy from HP or some other manufacturer producing for the mass market. It is even with the Replicator 2 a product for people who have at least a slight craftmansship. Just to make it clear: There is (as far as I know) no 3d printer which does not require that. My Makerbot Replicator 2 at work

Here is a video I captured with my cell phone (because of that the shaking camera) to show you how my makerbot works with a larger object with a spool from Plastic2Print and a special spoolholder for that. The file for Makerware to print the spoolholder can be found here: You may find it interesting to hear the loudness/noisyness of the Replicator 2 here, because I am talking with a normal voice even a little less loud than normal maybe here.

Merry Christmas 2012

We are all still here and the world is more or less the same as before... Because of that I am very happy that I am able to wish you all: Merry Christmas! And since 3d prints are a part of this blog, I have a print which fits well into the time of the year. To make it short: All the best and merry, joyfull christmas to you all!

Spools from Plastic2Print

After receiving my PLA-spools from Plastic2Print there is one good and one bad thing about them: The good thing is, that the plastic is of a very nice quality and my Replicator 2 can print with it very nicely. The bad thing: They dont fit on the spool holder of the Replicator 2. But there is a solution for that: Just print your own spool holder! The first part was the most difficult one: I had to get some plastic from the new to the original ...
